2017 Seed Order #1

img_0086I ordered seeds from three different companies this year.  My biggest order was from Territorial Seed Company, with Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and Annie’s Heirloom Seeds rounding it out.  Unfortunately, since the move, I have no idea where the seeds from last year are, so for 2017 I decided to just start fresh.

I got the first of the orders in the mail yesterday, which is really a very fine thing to have happen in the middle of January, with the weather being what it is (rainy and cold, if you are wondering) and spring still just a distant dream.

Here’s what I got:

  • Beans, ‘Carson’
  • Beans, ‘Violet Podded Stringless’
  • Broccoli, ‘Summer Purple Sprouting’
  • Brussels Sprouts, ‘Igor’
  • Brussels Sprouts, ‘Rubine’
  • Corn, ‘Bodacious’
  • Corn, ‘Sugar Buns’
  • Cucumber, ‘Wautoma’
  • Rutabaga, ‘Joan’
  • Summer Squash, ‘Chiffon’
  • Winter Squash, ‘Butterbush’
  • Tomato, ‘Brandywine’
  • Tomato, ‘Cuore Di Bue’
  • Tomato, ‘Indigo Cherry Drops’
  • Tomato, ‘San Marzano’
  • Tomato, ‘Sungold’

Out of this bunch, I’ll sow the brussels sprouts, the brocolli, the rutabagas and even some of the tomatoes (as an experiment, since they’re destined for the greenhouse) inside next month, nestled snugly against the two south-facing windows.  The rest will be sown in March, April and even May!

What I really found lovely was how as soon as I opened the package and started sifting through all the different, colorful packets, listening to the rustle of the seeds inside, spring suddenly didn’t seem so far away.

In fact, it seems like it’s just around the corner now.
